This one falls victim to something that just bugs me. There are plenty of Lovecraft creations that you can just go wild on and portray however you want, because he only gave vague or nonexistent descriptions of them. Cthulhu isn’t one of them. There’s some room for interpretation, still, but he’s pretty clear and specific about what Cthulhu looks like. You can only go so far with it before your portrayal is just wrong — or, at least, divorced from Lovecraft’s creation in all but name.
