Postreason is a blog run by an artist who calls herself Kartott, where she shares sketches and designs, while discussing strange experiences she’s had throughout her life. Shamanic, visionary, and UFOric, it’s a great read for anyone interested in the themes of 1989.
As an added bonus, she comes from a military family, in fact her step-son, Mike Totten, was one of the American soldiers who gave testimony at the Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan event last year. I watched the videos when they came out, and they were quite powerful. I strongly recommend them to Riotfish readers.
This is becoming a common phrase around here lately, but if you’re interested in the themes that flow through 1989, you might be interested in the paranormal podcast Paratopia. It’s entertaining, thought provoking, and at times hilarious. They’ve had some great guests give some stellar interviews, including Whitley Strieber, Stanton Friedman, and Greg Bishop. I particularly recommend the Phillipe Mora interview to anyone who was traumatized by the Christopher Walken alien abduction flick Communion. He directed the film, and as it turns out, is a painter and illustrator, with an interest in the surreal and the unusual. As a long time fan of the film, I found the interview quite illuminating.
There won’t be any posts next week, as I’ll be in Vancouver, rocking my ass off watching Glass Candy.
Where can we trace this dirty disco thing back to? Marianne Faithfull? I personally detect a feminine parallel to the fairly male dominated industrial music movement of the late 70′s and early 80′s. I’m not saying there are perfect, direct links, but come on… post-industrial age ennui has to be fairly universal, and probably crops up all over the art and music scenes throughout the last century.
So as it turns out, I actually had time to do up a page before I left for Vancouver. See you next week!
PS: 1989 Concept art! Paint sketch I did to tease out a dream I had a couple weeks ago.
Sorry about the late post. The snow is back! I’ll fix up the last two pages a little later.
