Okay! It all comes together. Machinery is routinely biological here, so the maintenance cycle repaired the hole in the guy’s foot, just as the entry door removed the cancer he (probably) didn’t even know he had.
The story must be almost over. I’m starting to get it now.
You are scoring a lot of hits, but… the story has only just begun, actually. If you read the strips in sequence, not a lot of time has passed yet.
Action Summary:
He twitches and giggles, then the hole in his shoe (and presumably the corresponding hole in his foot) vanish. He looks disconcerted.
