i thought this was a bit unnecessary. i liked how in the last strip it was really quite subtle - it took me a moment to figure out what he was referring to and then i was like ‘oh. OH!’ and that was awesome
i guess you guys thought it wasn’t clear enough?

definately not the intent behind this! i thought having him check a second paper would read like panic or desperation.
also thanks for elaborating, this is one of the few ncs notes i’ve understood the reasoning for. it seems having as few thought or word balloons as possible improves reader’s perceptions of this strip?

maybe cutting panel 1 and panel 4’s balloons improves it?

I figured he was just being thorough, and now he’s going to be able to make a well informed choice about his next step… whatever THAT might be!

ok, panel 1 is now silent. feels less redundant already

Yeah, getting rid of the word bubble conveyed the message better.

I don’t get it at all. put back the bubbles so i have a chance at comprehending this insanity….or just tell me what the bubbles said. no really, i did understand it just fine reading it without the shadow bubble 1 and 4 … however, you have created a bubble void that is rendering the whole damn thing very sad.

not that his tears..weren’t sad enough already. gosh!

ah!
it definitely reads better now, yeah. that first panel was the main culprit.
